The zoo and the Wild Animal Park each have large and showy flocks of flamingos. There were both great and lesser flamingos but I cannot for the life of me remember which is which. The ones at the zoo are more brightly colored but that could be the result of differences in their diets. In the wilds of Africa the pink pigmentation is a result of the shrimp they eat. At the zoo they are given a dye in their feed that provides the coloration. We were amazed at how they sleep perched high on one leg with their heads tucked under their wings.
